ReThink Your Tears
Luke 14:33-35 (New International Version)
“In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.”
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
The other day as I wiped the tears away from my daughters eyes and tasted it, I was reminded about the saltiness of a tear. Usually when we hear the word tears, we think sorrow or sadness, however it is easy to forget those times where we laugh so hard that we cry uncontrollably. Tears represent extreme sorrow, as well as intense joy.
I have been forced to rethink this scripture. Maybe a little abstractive or even a bit of a stretch, however to be a disciple of Christ, we are called to give up everything, give up self. Our hearts should be broken, for that which breaks the Fathers heart. And be filled with passionate joy, when the Father laughs.
Is the key to remaining “salty” being vulnerable, passionate and affectionate with yourself and others? Do the tears we shed show the world that we aren’t dead? We aren’t defeated or destroyed, but here to help each other fill that deep void? Do your fears bring reluctance to crying meaningful tears?
Have the moments gone a waste , because of the tears we’re scared to face & taste? Don’t lose your saltiness because it cannot become salty again.
